Privacy
How we handle your information. Last updated 12 October 2026.
Short version: we collect what we need to answer you and to take your booking, nothing more. No cookies and no advertising trackers. This page stores nothing on your device. We do count page visits, using a tool that sets no cookies and cannot identify you — see Counting visits below.
Who is responsible
Speglahúsið ehf., kennitala 571025-0860, Ólafsvöllum 26, 825 Stokkseyri, Iceland — operating Mirror House Iceland at Hjallabrekka 1, 311 Borgarbyggð, West Iceland.

Counting visits
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit the site and which pages they read. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other websites. It records the page address, the referring site, and general details such as country, browser and device type. None of this identifies you, and we cannot use it to single out an individual visitor.
We use it for one reason: to know whether anyone is finding the site.
What we collect
If you send us a message. Your name, your email address, and what you write. Nothing else — there is no phone field and we do not ask for one.
If you book with us. Your name, email address, the dates of your stay, the number of guests and the amount paid. Card details are entered on our payment provider's own secure page; we never see or hold your card number.
If you only visit. Our host keeps standard server logs — IP address, page requested, time, browser type — briefly, to keep the site running and secure.
Why we hold it
- To take and manage your booking — we need it to perform our contract with you.
- To answer your message — because you asked us to.
- To keep accounts — Icelandic law requires it.
- To keep the site working — our legitimate interest in running it.
We do not send marketing email and we will not add you to a list.
Who else sees it
Only the companies that make the booking work, and only as much as they need.
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts this site and delivers your message to us |
| Beds24 | The booking system holding reservations and the calendar |
| Teya Iceland hf. | Takes the card payment |
| Airbnb | Only if you booked through Airbnb rather than with us |
Where a provider sits outside the EEA, the transfer relies on the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
This page loads nothing from anyone else. The typefaces are served from our own server rather than Google's, so no third party sees your visit.
We never sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Messages — up to two years, so we have the history if you write again.
- Bookings and payment records — seven years, the retention Icelandic accounting law requires. We cannot delete these earlier, even if asked.
- Server logs — a short period set by our host.
Your rights
Under the GDPR as it applies in Iceland, you may ask us to tell you what we hold and give you a copy, correct anything wrong, delete it where we are not required to keep it, hand it to you in a portable format, or stop and limit how we use it.
Write to booking@mirrorhouseiceland.is and we will answer within one month.
If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to Persónuvernd, the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, at personuvernd.is — though we would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.
Children
The house sleeps two adults and we do not take bookings from under-18s. We do not knowingly collect anything about children.
Changes
If this changes we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant and we are holding your booking, we will email you.
